Performance Goal Setting
What will you play?
I see fire by Ed sheeran
Who are you playing with?
I’m playing alone
What is the focus of the performance?
The picking part of the song.
How will you know if you’ve been successful?
With accurate rhythm and good sounds from picking and strumming.
for my performance i am playing boulevard of broken dreams by Greenday, my goals are to have nice clear strumming and try not to make mistakes while keeping good rhythm. I am performing with Drew H and Joseph S. Also i just want to get through it.
This week I’ve joined up with a few seniors from the block two drama class (which is coming to watch our performances this Friday) to join them in an acoustic cover of the 1975’s song, “Settle Down.”
Jayden, Mitch, Paul and Dylan are in a band in part inspired by their mutual affection for the 1975, and I’m grateful for the invite to play with them this week. It’s always interesting to work with a group of musicians who have a method, or at least some loosely formed habits, for arranging songs and performances, as my own musical studies of late have revolved around just this sort of band-collaboration. The gents from drama have been particularly gracious in setting aside lunchtimes to teach and rehearse the song with me, and I’m looking forward to seeing the song come together.
I’ve embedded a recording of our rehearsal today at lunch (my first stab at rhythm guitar on the song), and in the next few days, we will be looking to tighten up our timing, as well as the dynamics at work in the catchy, originally-synth-based tune.
I will play I’m yours by james Mraz. Im playing with jamy oh. My focus is to use my stroke pattern and making any mistake with the chords. Jamy and I made recordings and it sounded really good, so i thought i did well during practices.
For my performance I am going to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Greenday along with Joseph and Adam. What I hope to improve on is my rhythm playing with others and being consistent with tempo when I play.
My partner is the other Jason in our class(sorry, I forgot his last name.). We are gonna be performing “When I was your man” by Bruno Mars. It is a fairly advance song to tackle because of the confusing chord progression. Fortunately, we managed to figure it out. I just hope that we’re completely synchronized from end to finish. I also made the decision to not play lead guitar as it will ruin the song and I can’t seem to find the right time to switch to lead guitar. I just hope that my first performance on this semester of Intro Guitar will be successful and hope the others will enjoy it as I enjoy playing it to them.
Wow this is late, but anyways, during my preparation of the performance with Black Paul and the Koreans I wanted get something out of the performance. Sure, for preparation I learnt how to palm mute and sing, but really all I wanted to get was the experience of performing and singing in front of my peers, which I’ve avoided for so long because I never was confident enough to perform. However, with an awesome group who listened to my ideas and helped me express my opinion which in the end was the only reason I was brave enough to perform without a mistake in front of people. During the performance I think I learned many valuable lessons and I think I will have better performances in the future because of this performance.
